Water jet cutting can cut almost any material without heating it, deforming it or changing its properties. The ultra high-pressure water jet up to 60,000 PSI can effortlessly slice through soft materials such as wood or rubber or cut harder materials with an added abrasive.

The result is that all precision cuts have a burr-free smooth edge, eliminating the need for further finishing.

What materials are suitable for water jet cutting?

Almost any material can be cut to the finest detail and accuracy using CNC water jet cutting techniques. To reduce noise and water splashing, items are usually cut underwater. So as long as it can be dried out, you can water jet it:

  • Metals including aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel, steel, titanium and tungsten
  • Composites including carbon fiber, UHMW, Teflon, PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), fiberglass and foams
  • Plastics, rubber and acrylic
  • Non-tempered glass
  • Soft natural materials including leather, wood, textiles, etc
  • Stone including granite

Main benefits of water jet cutting

No Heat-Affected Zones (HAZ)

Water jet cutting is especially suitable for materials that would be affected by the heat produced from a laser cutter or plasma cutter. With no Heat-Affected Zones (HAZ), water jet cutting is especially useful for cutting flammable metals including manganese, and cobalt alloys.

Burr-free Finish

Unlike traditional milling or cutting, CNC water jet cutting includes an abrasive (usually specialist sand or crushed garnet) to produce smooth, burr-free cuts. Since the cutting movement is controlled by software, edges are sand-smooth and have a consistent finish across all cuts.

Wide range of material thicknesses

CNC water jet cutting is most cost-effective on materials that are 2” thick or less. However, our machine can handle bar, sheet, plate or blocks up to 6” thick depending on the material. Call us to discuss your requirements.
